Podmores top your mince pies this Christmas

The dusting system was manufactured in food grade stainless steel and designed to keep the quality of the end product and reduced wastage in mind at all times. The continuous system Podmores designed is capable of dusting 9,072,000 pies per week, more than enough to keep the customer’s production schedule on track! Sugar snow (although the machine can be used with icing sugar or other power dusting ingredients) is fed in through a bulk hopper, sieved to remove clumps and index distributed down one of 30 depositing tubes which match the mince pie shipping trays.

Andrew Gough, Managing Director said: ‘Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without mince pies. When we were approached about manufacturing a machine to automate a process currently done by hand and with large amounts of wastage and products not meeting quality control thresholds we put our vast knowledge into designing a system suitable for the job. First impressions really count and we’re delighted to have come up with an automated system which leaves these mince pies looking the best they possibly can’.

Because the mince pies are seasonal, and one of may products that the customer produces on this line, the whole system can be rolled off the line in seconds, minimising change overs and making full clean downs easier to perform. The dusting system is managed by one operative who visually inspects performance and loads the feed hoppers as required.  Prior to the installation of the dusting system four operatives were used to dust the pies by hand. The system is also a lot more accurate and can target specific pies and not whole trays. The frequency of full clean downs is also a lot less now that there isn’t as much sugar snow in the belt and floor area.
