Podmores have developed and installed a bespoke automated pick and place system to put Mini Eggs onto the top of cakes. The entire system features a very small footprint and can was built to fit around the customer’s existing production line, improving output to around 25,000 eggs on cakes per hour, all at a very high quality.
The system was manufactured from stainless steel to ensure the Mini Eggs were free from contamination and designed to ensure quick clean down is possible to minimisie down time and also to meet the customer’s high standards of hygeine.
The system consists of three main elements – the first is a hopper loader assembley with vibratory linear feeder to draw out the eggs and spread them evenly. They then move into ten lanes on another two vibratory linear feeders which provide a continuous feed to the third part which is a pneumatic pick and place unit with a vision system set to operate when a cake passes under the machine. The entire automated system requires a human only for loading the hoppers with product when the machine indicates it is running low.
Despite the irregular shape of the eggs the system is very tolerant and can accept an egg to place onto the cake at any position.
This bespoke system was specially designed for this application but similar systems can also be developed to handle products for the following industries: aerospace, automotive, chemicals, cosmetics, electronics, food & beverage, medical & biotech, military, mining, packaging, pharmaceutical, plastics & recycling.
