Podmores have helped a leading automotive airbag producer to handle knitted mesh airbag filters. Incorporated in airbag inflator systems, knitted mesh airbag filters use uniformly compressed knitted wire mesh elements to trap particulates from the propellant and to cool the expanding gas in the event that the airbag is deployed.
The bowl feeder Podmores designed was a mild steel fabricated unit tailor made to reduce damage or structural warping of the component. This was especially important as should the component be in any way compromised then in the event of the airbag deploying it could lead to a failure and potentially serious harm being caused to the person. The bowl feeder also took into account sound minimisation due to handling metal components.
Andrew Gough, Managing Director said: ‘We were delighted to be chosen to help with the the manufacture of car airbags. Podmores has a long and proud history of helping in safety applications over many industries so it was very rewarding to see how our machinery plays a part in such a vital safety device’.
This bespoke system was specially designed for this application but similar systems can also be developed to handle products for the following industries: aerospace, automotive, chemicals, cosmetics, electronics, food & beverage, medical & biotech, military, mining, packaging, pharmaceutical, plastics & recycling.
